What is a PoC radio?

A PoC radio (Push-to-Talk over Cellular) is a communication device that carries instant voice over the 4G/5G mobile network instead of private radio frequencies. Press the PTT button and your voice travels over cellular data to the other handset or a dispatcher console. Because it rides the public network, range equals network coverage — a worker in one city can talk to a colleague in another with no repeaters in between.

How a PoC radio works

  1. The device encodes your voice and sends it as data over cellular (or Wi-Fi).

  2. A push-to-talk server routes it to the target user or group instantly.

  3. The receiver plays it back like a radio call — often with sub-second latency on 4G/5G.

  4. Because it is data, the same device can also run GPS tracking, messaging and even barcode scanning.

  • Ruggedness: IP68 plus MIL-STD-810 drop resistance is the practical baseline for outdoor and industrial use.

  • Battery: Shifts are long. Mainstream units run 3000–6000 mAh; purpose-built long-shift models reach 10000 mAh (Uphone L653).
