Walk through any modern warehouse and you’ll notice something: the devices clipped to workers’ belts aren’t just scanners anymore. They’re full Android computers with touchscreens, wireless connectivity, and enough processing power to run WMS apps, check inventory levels, and print labels on the spot.
This shift isn’t about flashy technology. It’s about solving real operational headaches — duplicate data entry, device failures in cold storage, and workers who need more than just a scanner to do their jobs efficiently.

Scanning range and speed. Not all 1D/2D scanners are equal. Warehouses dealing with damaged labels, shrink-wrapped pallets, or high-bay locations need scanners that can read from a distance and through plastic film. A scanner that takes three attempts to read a code isn’t acceptable at scale.
Glove-friendly touchscreens. Cold storage workers don’t have time to remove gloves to tap a screen. Capacitive touch that works with thick gloves isn’t a nice-to-have — it’s the difference between a usable device and an expensive paperweight.
Buying a device is easy. Deploying it across a warehouse team isn’t.
The real cost isn’t the hardware price — it’s the integration work. Does the terminal support your WMS? Can it connect to your existing Wi-Fi infrastructure without constant dropouts? Is there a USB-C port for charging docks you already own?
Compatibility decisions made at procurement can save or cost thousands in IT hours later. Choose devices that support standard Android APIs for barcode scanning, not proprietary SDKs that lock you into vendor software.
Warehouses aren’t replacing scanners because they want new toys. They’re replacing them because scanner-only setups can’t handle modern workflows.
